New Entryway

10 Jan

One of the first things my husband I did when we moved into our boring beige apartment was to paint some accent walls. We chose a rich, dark turquoise color and it immediately gave us the pop we needed for our entryway. Over the holiday, we finally put the finishing touches on the space, hanging some great artwork we found recently found in Palm Springs (I love buying artwork on vacation!) and a cute curtain from Target.

It’s no secret I love a gallery wall – I posted an entry on another gallery wall in our apartment last year. For our entryway, I wanted a more eclectic look, so I mixed textures, shapes and added DIY art.

If you’re interested in some of the artists featured on our wall, see below for their sites:

  • Collage art – Curtner Art: This artist’s pieces are amazing. Each collage is made of tiny cut pieces from magazines and takes many many hours to create. His artwork puts my basic collage art to shame!
  • Mustache art – Go Jump in the Lake: This artist’s pieces are stamped onto reclaimed wood and have a wonderful shabby chic yet graphic feel.

One of my favorite parts of our newly styled entryway is the black and white curtain hanging in the doorway to the kitchen. Our kitchen is pretty boring. Because we are renting, there is only so much you can change and the kitchen isn’t worth the work. When you enter our home, the eye is naturally drawn to the kitchen doorway, so to help block this mild eye sore, we hung a cute curtain using a basic tension rod. The idea came from one of my favorite decor books Living in a Nutshell. You may remember I did a review on the book last year.

Next up on our decorating list is to put some finishing touches on our dining room and finding new throw pillows for the couch. What decorating projects are on your list for 2013?

xoxo, Andi

P.S. Here’s a great picture hanging tip for gallery walls.

since i love your blog and im currently obsessed with decorating my home (which i finally, officially purchased!!), i’ll be the first to reply – i have a lot of projects planned for this year but my two main focuses are my office and my family room. The family room is basically a storage area right now so I’ll be starting from scratch. im very excited about picking out paints and furniture for both rooms πŸ™‚ i also plan on finally putting up the backsplash tiles i bought for my kitchen and finishing up my guest room. it’ll be a busy year!!

Hooray for being a homeowner! I’m so envious you have so many rooms to decorate. We are running out of things to do at our place. Make sure to send me some pics when you’re done! πŸ™‚

Hey lady! I’m hoping to redecorate my bathrooms, but I have the feeling it will become more of a demolition project than just redecorating…i really want to put in some beadboard (or something like that) rather than the old drywall that’s in there now. I might try tiling for the first time too! πŸ™‚ Now i just have to convince my husband that this is a good idea, not just more work for him!

I love beadboard!! Just remind him that all this adds to the value of your home πŸ˜‰ Send me some updated pics if you have them!
