DIY Cardboard Office Tray

13 Jan

When you live in an apartment like me, keeping up with clutter can feel like a full-time job. Wait – who am I kidding? I’m sure everyone feels this way, no matter the size of their home. I especially feel disorganized after the holidays. This is usually a result of trying to shoehorn all our Christmas gifts into our apartment. So every January like clockwork, I go on a purging spree and nothing is safe – electronics, old magazines, socks, cars, the junk drawer – everything gets a once over. I don’t know about you, but I can’t concentrate if the environment around me is too disorganized.

One thing I was in need of was a decorative tray to corral some of my loose office supplies, so I decided to make another tray from recycled cardboard. You may recall I made this blue decorative tray for my coffee table last year. This project is really easy and only requires a few items. For a full tutorial, visit my previous post.

The pink denim fabric was a major score at a local rummage sale – 3 yards for a $1.00. You can’t beat that. Instead of wrapping the entire tray in denim, I decided to add a pop of pattern to the bottom. The pink and gray fabric was actually a cloth napkin on sale for a couple bucks at Crate & Barrel. In case you’re wondering, the napkins are still available in stores.

Here’s a shot of the tray without all my junk in it. I was so thrilled to find two fabrics that went so well together.

Here is a close-up of the corner.

Have you started 2014 with a little organization? What spaces in your home need some extra attention?

xoxo, Andi

That box is a really cute idea. I totally recognize the notebook in it 🙂 from ALT NYC!!! I already used the entire notebook after I brought it to work.

So much nicer than the plastic baskets I now have on my desk.

Very neat work! It certainly brightens up the desk where you are working! Great idea to keep bits and pieces together. Thanks, I’ll see what material I have stored away or I’ll go to Jo-Ann fabrics to see what pieces they have on offer.

Thanks! The theme is called Bueno. You will need to pay a fee in order to customize it to the extent I did.
