When you live in an apartment like me, keeping up with clutter can feel like a full-time job. Wait – who am I kidding? I’m sure everyone feels this way, no matter the size of their home. I especially feel disorganized after the holidays. This is usually a result of trying to shoehorn all our Christmas gifts into our apartment. So every January like clockwork, I go on a purging spree and nothing is safe – electronics, old magazines, socks, cars, the junk drawer – everything gets a once over. I don’t know about you, but I can’t concentrate if the environment around me is too disorganized.
One thing I was in need of was a decorative tray to corral some of my loose office supplies, so I decided to make another tray from recycled cardboard. You may recall I made this blue decorative tray for my coffee table last year. This project is really easy and only requires a few items. For a full tutorial, visit my previous post.
The pink denim fabric was a major score at a local rummage sale – 3 yards for a $1.00. You can’t beat that. Instead of wrapping the entire tray in denim, I decided to add a pop of pattern to the bottom. The pink and gray fabric was actually a cloth napkin on sale for a couple bucks at Crate & Barrel. In case you’re wondering, the napkins are still available in stores.
Here is a close-up of the corner.
Have you started 2014 with a little organization? What spaces in your home need some extra attention?
