5 New Year’s Resolution

15 Jan

Every year I make a long list of resolutions – some I complete and like everyone else, many I don’t. One of the toughest resolutions I made last year was to eliminate gluten. Not because I wanted to be trendy, but because I hoped it would solve my gut issues. And it did. So for 2014 am taking it easy. No big life changes, just small tweaks that will hopefully improve and add value to my life.

My husband and I are in a serious dinner rut. Being gluten-free makes cooking a bit more complicated so we tend to stick to the same meals. This year I have committed to trying at least one new recipe each week. So far, I have made two different soups and a delicious poached salmon dish. All of which will be added to our regular rotation. Do you have a favorite recipe? Please pass it on to me, I have many more weeks of cooking to do!

During a recent wardrobe purge I realized I own a lot of really great clothes, many of which I have dubbed “for special occasions only.” Well surprise, surprise those special occasions rarely happen, so these beautiful pieces sit waiting in my closet for a day that may never come. (*tear) This year I have decided to throw caution to the wind and simply wear them, not matter the occasion.

I watch entirely too much TV. In my defense, there are just so many good shows on: The Blacklist, Nashville, Scandal, Big Bang Theory, Downton Abbey (although I am mad at this show right now!), and the list goes on. As much as I need to wind down at the end of the workday, there are more rewarding and productive things I could be doing, like reading a book, starting a craft project, or working out.

I have a confession to make – I have no idea how to use my fancy camera. I literally turn it on and hope for the best. Which usually causes me to experience a major rage bubble when the pictures don’t turning out quite the way I had envisioned. Luckily I have some Photoshop skills, so I can rescue most pictures. This year I have resolved to once and for all learn my camera. To all my photographer friends out there – I may be asking you for a tutorial!

I love to read, however rarely make time to do so. I usually end my night with a little pre-bed TV time, however the scenes from the shows often end up in my dreams, making sleep a bit more restless. Hopefully reading before bed will help quiet my brain and allow me to cross some books off my super long reading list.

Are you participating in any New Year’s challenges? I thought I might do the 23 days of creative activities challenge hosted by The Nectar Collective and Apartment Therapy’s The January Cure. You should join too!

What are some of your New Year’s resolutions?

xoxo, Andi

I’m with you on learning how to use my camera – I’ve had it for 3 years and rely on auto mode most of the time… I started the January Cure and quickly fell off the band wagon although I have made my edited organizational to-do-list, and try to work on it weekly – we’ll see.
On a positive note… I do finish the day with a book, because I love to read and i’m in a book club (so I need to read whenever I can).
Good luck with your resolutions…they are very do-able…

I’m exactly the same way – I rely way too much on auto mode. And then I wonder why my pictures don’t always turn out great. I started the January cure late, so it’s going to be more like a Jan/Feb cure.

I’m not a big New Years resolution person. Mostly, because it annoys me like crazy when people put something out there so astronomical it’s most likely a fail or unsustainable (i.e. lose 7 pounds a week until Spring Break). This year though, I did put some thought into something attainable that would make not only my life better but my family’s. I decided to be conscious of being patient with my 3 yr old while I’m pregnant. I had prided myself on being extremely patient with my little guy until lately. Being pregnant makes me want to meltdown just as much as him some days, so my goal is to recognize when that’s happening, breathe deep, and realize whatever the issue is, it is not the end of the world!!

Thanks! 🙂 It was difficult but I’m better for it!

I totally agree with you on the outrageous resolutions people make. Some are just plain unrealistic! Being more patient is a wonderful resolution. I can only imagine how difficult it must be to wrangle a 3 year old while pregnant.
